A Dream Achieved
Today is an awesome day for all Australians and in fact – all dreamers.
Jessica Watson, the bravest young 16 year old, is about to sail into Sydney Heads after her mammoth ‘circumnavigation of the globe’ totally unassisted.
This has taken Jessica seven months to complete her around the world path, but despite experiencing huge storms, lots of hard work, periods of loneliness and problems with engine and general wear and tear on her pink lady “Ella”, Jessica Watson is preparing to enter Sydney Heads on the final hour of her journey.
Jessica said..
“It’s not about accolades but personal fulfilment. I am still just Jess. That’s really important to me because I am. I am completely ordinary. That’s the thing. I just put a lot of effort in, had a great team around me and I think that goes to show you don’t have to be anyone special to achieve something big. You just have to want it.”
Let me repeat that last sentence:
“…that goes to show you don’t have to be anyone special to achieve something big. You just have to want it.”
Wouldn’t it be a wonderful world if we all had a big enough desire, or want, to achieve whatever biggie we’re after?
So, as Jessica Watson comes to the end of her odyssey (and I’m sure the beginning of a wonderful life ahead for many years to come), her feat is testimony to her persistence, her tenacity and …. her dream.
Well done Jessica Watson – you are truly an inspiration – to us all.
