Public Speaking To Explode Your Business

Public speaking is one of the best ways to raise your visibility, your credibility and your profits.

Whenever I mention that speaking publicly is one of the most effective strategies for growing your business, or building a list of prospective customers who can’t wait to buy from you, you’d probably cringe with fear, and mutter “But, there’s no way I could do that!”

It’s true that public speaking is the world’s greatest fear – yes – even greater than spiders, illness and even dying.

You’ve probably heard the saying that most people would prefer to be in the box, than speaking to those around it.

How sad is that? Yet, if you can conquer your fear of public speaking, you can explode your business.

So, what is it about public speaking that makes it such a powerful marketing tool and business builder?

I’d like to point out just 3 benefits of public speaking:

Benefit #1: You have the ability to build your list quickly as you get your listeners to know, like and trust you. Your audience is given an experience of YOU. As you present, they get to feel your essence…who you really are. And before long, you’ve got their trust. As you know, the most important part of building your business is creating your list, and in this process, people typically move through four stages: from suspect (they don’t know you and think you just want to take advantage of them) to prospect (they say yes to a free offer you’ve made and are interested in learning more about you) to client (they’ve spent money with you…even one dollar!) to raving fan (they buy just about everything you offer AND tell others that they must get to know you too).

So, each time you get the opportunity to speak to a group, you will want to collect their contact details, such as name and email address. In exchange for their details, offer something for free such as a report, tip sheet or a cd of either an interview you’ve done or a selection of tips in your area of expertise. Most people are happy to do this…after hearing you speak, they want to get more from you. To them, you are the expert, and you’ve succeeded in creating a relationship so they are no longer suspects…they are already prospects…or if they purchased one of your information products…they are clients…and many will already be raving fans!

Benefit #2: The opportunity to make fantastic sales from the “back of the room” is terrific when you speak in public. Many audience members love browsing the information products (books, workbooks, cds, home study courses) that are provided at seminars or meetings and are often ‘must-haves’ following a presentation. It is directly following a presentation when the crowd are tempted and often hungry for more information. And they can tell their friends and colleagues who may visit your website later and continue to purchase.

The truth is, a speaker is truly performing a disservice to her audience if she doesn’t give them more of what they want. AND, you can make a truckload of money selling your information products! Remember the Work Once Wisely business model, you spend time to create them once…and then continue to make money with them for years to come.

Benefit #3: You are an expert in your niche. You have good information to share and it would be a shame not to share that information with others. When you speak on a topic you are passionate about, you can motivate and inspire an audience and literally change their lives. Just one piece of information can encourage someone to take a baby step that leads to another and another…resulting in a positive life change.

So, if you get an opportunity to stand before an audience, jump at it. Grow your prospects, your prestige and your profits with public speaking.
